Australia has the highest standards of electrical safety in the world and runs on 220-240v system. The Australian electrical system will fry the wiring from chandeliers that are wired for American or European consumption (110v).

It is a very expensive and tedious job to rewire a chandelier and, in many cases, the chandeliers that have been made and wired to 110v have very small openings in the arms and centres for the electrical wires to fit through as American wire is not much different to speaker cable. This means in many cases you can’t fit Australian standards electrical wire through as Australian wiring is a minimum double the thickness.

Another important thing to be aware of is overseas companies offering “Free Delivery to Australia”. This means two things; the first is the chandelier will be sent flat-packed in 100’s or, in some cases, 1000’s of tiny pieces. This is the only way an overseas company can offer free delivery to Australia and means the chandelier will require complete assembly from scratch or, in other words, you build your chandelier.
