Cleaning

How do I clean my Chandelier?

Chandeliers are easier to clean than most people imagine, in fact, if your chandelier is cleaned on a regular basis (12-24 months) it can take less than 10 minutes to have it back to its former glory.

There are two main methods of cleaning a chandelier; both methods require using a mixture of 70% warm water and 30% white vinegar mixed together. The warm water will clean your crystals whilst the vinegar will evaporate leaving a perfect finish without streaks. Detergents and soaps do not work in the same way and can result in streaking of the crystal. This can significantly affect light refraction and minimise the impact of your chandelier.

The first method is to place the warm water and vinegar into a spray bottle and spray all crystal components thoroughly leaving it to drip dry for approx 24 hours. This cleaning method will require you to disconnect all power to your chandelier until it is completely dry. We also recommended you place a plastic tarp on the ground to make sure you don't damage floor coverings.

The second method is good old fashioned chandelier cleaning using a glass cloth (micro fibre available at most supermarkets). Firstly, mix your warm water and vinegar in a bucket about 1/4 full, rinse the cloth in the mixture and wring out so it is damp but not dripping. Gently wipe all crystal components and leave the solution to evaporate.  This method sounds like hard work but if you clean your chandelier on a regular basis (12-24 months) it will only require a quick once over.

Chandeliers that have been left for several years without any cleaning may need several applications of either of the above cleaning methods.

You should always make sure all power to your chandelier is turned off prior to cleaning and not switched back on for at least 48 hours or, until the chandelier is dry.
